Angkarn’s love stories

Have you ever wondered how much the love stories depicted in the novel are different from the writer’s real life? Sometimes, the life of the main characters is full of bitterness, unexpectedness, curiosity and disappointment. The writer might enjoy grabbing readers’ attention by creating dramatic scenes which will have happy or tragic endings. Sometimes, the ways the writer described the scenes that are so emotional might spark the readers to wonder whether the stories were based on real-life stories or merely the writer’s imagination.

In Angkarn’s personal life, love seems to be the topic that people tend to focus on. This might be because of the famous poems he composed as a young man, ‘Losing You’, or his aggressiveness which he later called ‘Angry Young Man’ that triggered people to know more about his love life. Not to mention, the poem that he wrote to complain about his poor destiny, ‘Pa-Kee-Riew’ (A Rag). It is a poem recounting his bad luck in finding love. Later, when he married and had a family, love for him turned to be more warm and deep. In the eyes of a poet or an artist, love for Angkarn might be exceptional. Following are parts of his love stories in line with the memory archives to support the stories that have never been disclosed anywhere before.

During the time when he studied at Silpakorn University, Angkarn had a crush on a girl who studied with his friends named Kanitha. Both of them didn’t know each other well, but he fell in love with her. One day he went into her classroom while the teacher was teaching, he pointed out at her face and reprimanded something unclarified which shocked the entire class. Another funny story is when he went to her house and told her mother that it was late and Kanitha had not returned home yet. The feelings he received from the thought of being heartbroken as the girl had never been interested in him were expressed in a renowned poem.

In addition to a girl who inspired him to write a famous poem, there was a mysterious girl whose name appeared on certain archival documents. They include the letters that both of them wrote to each other. Briefly, the letters were about the feeling that they had toward each other. However, they also reflect how difficult it is for people in the past to contact one another. To call someone, they had to write a letter to let the other person know that they would receive a call soon. The receivers needed to wait for a call and if they missed a call, it would take almost a month to make another. Now, we have a smartphone, chat application, emoji stickers and many more that allow you to contact others with the tip of your fingers. Therefore, thoughts and feelings are running fast as the internet speed. People in this generation seem to lack patience. Profound emotions were replaced by superficial feelings.

As time passes, society grows, and technology has been embraced by people from generation to generation, it seems that people’s attitudes and behavior have changed as well. Without realizing it, people are in denial to go against the change. Our world has moved toward new trends. So much so that it is hard to find a person who witnessed the stories told in an archive. Some names mentioned in archives are still alive. The other might pass away. The love stories in archives will remain a secret. Perhaps it’s only two of them who know this secret. This is what makes archives enjoyable as the stories are fascinating as if you are watching a series. Sometimes, love is so mysterious that in time might swallow the truth away.

He eventually found the love of his life when he met Ounreun at Krung Siam Printing house where Suwannee Sukhonta was an editor at that time. Ounreun was just graduated from Petchaburi Teacher College and became an apprentice here following her friend’s suggestion. While Angkarn was walking to see his friend, Suwannee on the second floor, he offered to help Ounreun as she looked confused about a machine on a proof process. Later, he asked Suwannee for the red rose on the table and gave it to Ounreun who wore a pink rose dress. After that day, they begin to see each other quite often. Ounreun once told that she didn’t think they would fall in love and she thought that Angkarn might not have feelings for her as he was 24 years older than her. But later, their relationship had grown.

The poem name ‘Doi-Pa-Mee’ is a piece that Angkarn wrote to Ounreun when she went to Ching Rai province to teach tribal children. He asked his friend the director of the Maefahluang organization to take care of her. Angkarn walked up the hill to send Ounreun. On the way, they walk past fields and huts. The romantic scene occurred along the way as the rain drizzled among the sunlight, and a butterfly flew around as if it guided both of them toward the destination. Whenever Ounreun talks about this story, she always has a smile on her face.

Their stories passed without being recorded by a camera. Probably, it was only the drawings that captured the memories. Later, both of them came back to the rental house at soi ‘Trok-Wat-Pleng’ in Bangkok. Soon after, Angkarn asked Sulak Sivarak to purpose Ounreun and marry her in her hometown in Korat. He and Ounreun then had three children; Phuluang, Ormkaew, and Whisaka.

These are only some of the Archival memories which include the love of his life. Some love stories tend to have more clear pictures which make the readers feel as if the person who wrote this archive came back to life again. Similarly, you might feel emotionally involved or have a connection with something you discovered. After decoding the hidden messages inside the object combined with the thoughts inside your head, you will become surprised and amazed at the same time.
